The Unicorn man

June 21, 2018

This is a story about a young man named Michael, unlucky in love and life, and always blaming others for his bad fortune. He’s always short on money and complaining about his different failed business ideas. His girlfriend leaves him because she grows tired of his selfishness and the fact that he neglects her because he can think about no one but himself.

One day he hears about an antiques auction taking place, and decides to acquire some old artifacts, hoping to sell them at a profit later on. At the auction, he manages to score a whole chest full of artifacts, and when he opens it and examines the contents at home later, he finds a beautiful ring. He so admires it that he places it on his finger, and accidentally discovers he can transform anything he touches into any number of materials, including solid gold, silver, iron, soil, snow, and water, simply by using his thoughts and intentions.

Along with a friend of his who is obsessed with ancient legends, he begins researching the origins of this ring, and discovers that it is called the Unicorn Ring and that it was forged by the Unicorn Man, a chemist from the Middle Ages. The chemist had gifted the ring to a king, but it had then disappeared for reasons unknown. He also discovers that the stone in the ring dates back to the Age of Unicorns.

Michael decides to use the ring for his own profit, turning various things into solid gold and selling them as precious art pieces. He amasses a great fortune and lives a life of ostentatious luxury. He tries to get his girlfriend back but she refuses, telling him that his problem never was not having enough money, but a flaw in his personality. He then goes to his father, a doctor, who tells him the same thing: that his problem is his selfishness, and the fact that he only thinks about himself and his own dreams, and the proof is the fact that he has neglected his own father. He also tells him that one’s real fortune in life is in the people who love you, and not in the material things you own. And so, Michael decides to change and to pay more attention to others and to help those in need.

Meanwhile, as news of his riches spreads, it reaches the ears of a local gang and a millionaire banker whose bank has suffered some significant financial setback. They discover that the secret to Michael’s fortune is the ring he wears, and so the banker, along with the gang, begin to plot how they might steal the ring in order to gain money and power. They begin following Michael, who fights them in order to stop their evil plans. After his girlfriend realizes that he is now a better person, she returns to him.

One day, while she is over at his place, he accidentally turns her into gold, and, shocked, wonders how to turn her back into flesh and blood. Along with his friend, he discovers that there is in fact another ring made by the same chemist, one which has the power to return everything transformed by the first ring into its original state. He learns that the ring is kept in an old museum, and so he goes there and gets it. While he is gone, the banker steals the golden statue of Michael’s girlfriend, demanding that Michael hand over his magic ring in order to get her back. Michael fights the banker and manages to transform him into a golden statue, and then he turns his girlfriend back into her original state. Then the gang kidnaps his father and blackmails Michael to hand over the ring, or else they will kill his father. Again, with the help of his friend, he does battle with the gang and turns every single one of them into statues. In the end, Michael decides to keep the ring and to use its powers for good and to help others.
